Nice tool to publish RSS feeds on your web site

Yesterday, I got the idea that it would be nice to show the five most recent blog post from this blog on our family web site.

I thought about how to get it done with e.g. TextPattern, but could not figure it out. So, I turned to the Web. Within an hour or so I got a link to a special tool from one of the people hanging out at the Sitepoint forums. The tool is called Feed2JS.

can be used as hosted by the creators of the tool or on your own hosting service via downloading the source files. I used the first route.

The only thing you need to do, in order to get a short snippet of code (which is to be placed on the target web site: the family site in this case), is providing the URL to a blog’s feed and answering some feed formatting questions. After that you may want to do a little styling via CSS and you’re done.

Unfortunately I cannot show here what it looks like, for privacy reasons, but the Feed2JS site will come to the rescue for those interested.

Of course, this trick can be pulled off with any RSS feed, not just your own. Think of having the CNN, or Reuters feed on your web site. It’s quite easy!

Update 26-01-2006:
After checking out the Feedburner site for the first time, I found out they actually have a similar service called BuzzBoost. It works all very easy, with a nice customisation tutorial provided with it. Maybe this is a better alternative considering the other nice free services provided by Feedburner. It could be more reliable too.
