Second Life Temporary Limiting Signups
Via Reuters I found out about this:
To ensure the best possible experience for all of our Residents, we are temporarily limiting new account registrations.
There’s been a huge influx of new Residents into Second Life and we are working hard to keep up with the demand.

Well, we all new the system was under stress, but still it came as unexpected…
Update: according to Linden Lab (see Reuters)
“The grid message you saw was accidentally triggered,” Smith added in an email. “As usual, when the grid is down for maintenance, registration is closed.”
