Second Life Encounters 18 November 2006
It has been quite a while since I last updated this place. Shame on me, but I did some research. Actually, I invested serious time in Second Life, exploring the Second Life real estate market and acquiring some building skills in the process.
During my trips in the ever increasing virtual world of Second Life (1.5 million residents this week!), I have found, been guided to, some really interesting places. And that brought me to the idea to start a new feature called “Second Life Encounters”. So here is the first episode.
The Art Gallery of Roy Irwin and Karen Zohari
This encounter all started with an IM I got from Karen Zohari (SL name). As it appeared, she and I are colleagues at the same Amsterdam based financial institution. Karen found me through the Second Life article on our Company Wiki (a big applause for that technology!). Karen invited me to check out the Art Gallery she and her partner Roy Irwin have in Second Life.
So yesterday I visited the Art Gallery and was quite impressed. It is a well designed and spacious place where the Art, including a lot of photographs, is proudly presented. As a couple Karen Zohari & Roy Irwin, Dutch and Australian from origin, have designed and built their Art Gallery to bring more art to a wider public. Second Life public, in this case.
Next to Karen and Roy’s photography, they are currently displaying works of art by:
- Artside Mainline: the SL name for a well known young British artist. At the moment Roy and Karen are displaying his work from The Aboriginal series.
- Aj Dinkin: AJ is an oil on canvas painter heavily influenced by Cezanne and Picasso “exploring cubism and post cubism with a post-modern eye”. Two of her paintings were selected for inclusion in the New Media Consortium SL Campus’ AHO Museum and Gallery.
- Carlo Pimpernel: another oil on canvas painter, of which quite colourful paintings are displayed (abstract and landscape).
If I understood correctly, all artwork can be purchased in 1st life as well as in 2nd life.
A contest…
For artist there is also a special contest with as price two weeks of free exposition. The object is to have artists enter their best, most representative piece of art, after which there is a two week period of voting by visitors to the gallery.
I advice everybody to check this Art Gallery out, and not only for the art, but also for contemplating the entrepreneurial spirit that is being portrayed by this venture of Roy and Karen.
Irwin& Zohari ARTS & DESIGNS is located in the Limantour region (242, 23, 21). For a direct teleport please visit this SLurl.
Update: for another and very eleborate review of the Art Gallery please visit the My Other Life weblog.
