Too late for Crayon launch party due to server restrictions?
Yesterday, Crayons launch party was in the back of my mind all day, but how unlucky I was not having been able to attend the first hour. The reason: I just could not get into the Crayon Island sim, the dedicated part of the Second Life World where Crayon is located, due to some kind of server issue.
Later I realised, that I had read somewhere in the SL forums about sims not being able to hold more than an x number of avatars or residents. What that number is, I still do not know. But what I do know is that I was number x+n for quite some time, until I finally was admitted to the holy ground…
And nice it was! Crayonville is a very well build location. And they had some free goodies to offer as well, such as a special Crayon t-shirt, a glass of champagne and a coke.
I met Neville Hobson alias Jangles Junot in SL. I have been looking around for his For Immediate Release (my favourite podcast) co-host Shel Holtz (alias?), but was not able to locate him.
Although it was a pity to miss the first hour, it was nice to see a lot of people interested in the Crayon themes wandering around. I think Crayonville Island could become a real hangout for these people in the future too. I surely hope so, because for me that’s the most valuable part: meeting these interesting people in the very special 3D surroundings offered by Second Life.

There is also a very good “social media press release”: http://www.crayonville.com/press/10-26-06-sm-launch-release.html covering the basic details and providing a lot of links to relevant background material.
By the way, to complete the whole experience, Crayon also has a special produced song, with lyrics inspired by the Crayon manifesto, by Matthew Ebel called Every Color (you can listen to it here). A very nice tune indeed. For the best experience: start up Second Life, enter Crayonville Island, switch on the sound and start walking to the rhythm of the song and look around. It is a weird experience, and the additional sound makes it complete!
