Second Life will get VOIP soon!

This is very weird. A couple of days ago I wrote a post presenting my hopes for eventually being able to use an application like Skype in Second Life. And then today I was surprised to find this reader comment from Karl Long from the interesting Customers on Fire podcast.

To quote:

That is apparently being tested as we speak, I interviewed a few folks deep in secondLife (from electric sheep and Linden Lab) on my podcast, the episode is here, and they do mention that VOIP in secondLife is in beta.

It appears that some companies surrounding Second Life (another part of the industry) are testing VOIP applications in beta, so we can expect the real roll-out quite soon!

Check out the podcast where the news was mentioned: Customers on Fire podcast nr. 1. Look for time code 1:04:10.

By the way that podcast is a great listen overall. It is an episode dedicated to Second Life.

Update (23/02/07): Second Life gets Voice
