Billy Joel's interest in Coal Industry revived
A bit of background on songs is always nice especially when it is about songs of your favorite artist. Today I found this nice article on Billy Joel in Sheffield Today an online UK newpaper. Local stories are bound to hit the surface when a great artist comes along. Billy Joel played in Sheffield, UK, at the Hallam FM Arena on Monday July the 17th.
The article reports on a book about the demise of part of the UK coal mining industry, that was given to Billy because of the fact that it was Billy’s song Allentown that inspired the book in the first place.
By the way, I looked for the book “Energy Is Coal – Grimethorpe Pit Closure” on Google but only found one link without any real information. What a pity!
A final quote from the article:
The book, amongst presents sent backstage by fans, struck a chord with the music legend, who is regarded as one of the greatest social observation songwriters of all time. “I’m a history buff and I’ll certainly look forward to reading this. My wife is from Virginia, which is also a coal mining area,’’ said Joel, who is keen to explore his UK roots. His mother, Rosalind, was born in England and his father, Howard, was a Jewish holocaust survivor from Germany.
