Nice wiki case study
Via that great resource Column Two recently found a nice practical case study on the use of wiki’s on the Intranet.
The study focuses on the “the actual work practices that successfully accommodate wikis”, something very interesting to those venturing in wiki application on corporate intranets.
To keep it practical here, let me mention a few typical applications for the wiki in the study:
- Creating meeting agenda’s and minutes for more fruitful meetings and more commitment to actions agreed on afterwards
- Sharing information on customers
- Sharing best practises
- Bug reporting on course material
- Timetable management (central person emailing updated schedules to wiki where they show up on a dedicated page)
From the conclusions:
Wikis offer a simple shared space to collaborate on things that really matter. This does not translate into the “build it and they will come” thinking. Rather, as described in this article, wikis will work only if all of the following are present:
- The right culture. The talking, negotiating type.
- A practical, compelling reason to collaborate, to share (it helps if they are a number of practical, compelling reasons).
- A champion who can show the way.
These are recurring success factors, but nonetheless very important.
