Some truth about enterprise wiki's
Via Toby Ward’s very nice blog on Intranets, I found an interesting and realistic blog post from Shiv Singh at Avenue A | Razorfish on the use of wiki’s behind the firewall.
The post provides some truths like:
- not every knowledge worker wanting to collaborate
- people not feeling secure in editing someone else’s work
- wiki’s need a critical mass of useful information to get accepted (nice tip about interns!)
- successful wiki’s are the ones that target small communities of users within companies that share interests and business problems
As wiki guru Ross Mayfield noted in one of two available comments on the post, it’s all about “adoption”, which obviously includes choosing the right pilot project (“start small”). He should know as I wrote elsewhere.
By the way the second comment is also quite worthwhile, so do not forget to scroll down!
