A nice hangout for Mediawiki users and hackers
Just recently I came across a site, called mwusers.com that combines both a forum and a blog about the Mediawiki software.
I am especially interested in the forum, which is even visited by Rob Church, one of the current developers of Mediawiki.
Of course, the people behind the Mediawiki software also maintain an email list (the results are collected here) with some interesting information, but a real discussion forum just feels much better in terms of interactivity.
As regular readers of this blog know, I am quite interested in wiki’s (see these posts), being involved in challenging wiki projects at work at this moment.
It’s not only the use of the software (Mediawiki in my case) or the wiki concept in general that interests me, but also the possibilities of customisation, which can be achieved through some programming. The point is however that the applicable programming language is PHP and I know nothing about it! Another challenge is that the documentation about programming Mediawiki is quite scarce and fragmented.
Therefore, the new found forum is quite valuable to me for asking questions. But, my recent experience with Mediawiki has also enabled to help a few people e.g. with installing the software on their own pc at home.
That’s what the Internet is all about: “learning and sharing”.
